Imagine the possibilities if you were able to hypnotize anyone to do whatever you ask. So how can you hypnotize someone? If you believe popular myth you may well think that you need to buy an antique pocket watch, rent an authentic Edwardian drawing room, a chaise longue and top hat with a spinning spiral on it. Fortunately you don't need any such nonsense. All you need to do is learn some simple techniques that will enable you to literally put ideas into peoples heads.

That technique is called conversational hypnosis.

Conversational hypnosis is based upon the understanding that the conscious mind can be preoccupied by a sound, mental image, or activity allowing relative easy access to the subconscious. As the subconscious is the part of the mind that stores our beliefs, values and learned reponses by making suggestion to the subconscious the hypnotist is effectively changing the information that conscious decisions are based upon.

For example someone with low self esteem may well have suffered experiences that have "taught them" that they are valueless. The conversational hypnotist can work with their subconscious to suggest that they are a person worthy of more appreciation. However they will not be consciously aware of that suggestion but will rather find that their self esteem has improved. That's all very well but how can you hypnotize someone using conversational hypnosis.

Firstly you need to have some understanding of both the kind of person they are and their frame of mind. Some subtle observation of them and actively listening to what they say should give you some idea. The next step is to get their attention. However this must be done in a positive way. You don't want to get their attention because they are looking at you as if you were an idiot.

Once you've got their attention you need to start building a rapport with them. This means that you should try to convince them that you are both trustworthy and an authority figure worthy of their respect. The authority aspect is vital, not because you are arrogant or full of a sense of you own importance but because they need to feel that what you say carries some weight.

You then need to use some conversational techniques to "bypass the critical factor". We all have an in built sense of reality which is based upon a learned understanding of our environment. If I tell you houses are made of cheese everything you know tells you that is complete garbage. This is your conscious mind exercising the critical factor.

So how can you hypnotize someone if their mind is critical of what you are saying? The purpose therefore, at this stage is to use a set of metaphors, to establish the cognitive conditions that will overcome, or bypass, the critical factor. For example, if I can persuade your subconscious that cheese is commonly used as a building material and then ask you to consciously consider that houses are made of cheese you will happily believe it.

Everything you have done to this point is leading you towards inducing an open trance. This means that the persons conscious mind is completely captivated by something you are doing or saying. You can then use a set of conversational hypnosis techniques to talk directly to the persons subconscious. Your aim here is to establish selective thinking. That means that the thinking you are trying to achieve is in response to the suggestions you make. So in our former example the critical factor has been bypassed and you have fully captivated the subject and they are in open trance. You can now convince them that houses are made of cheese but the selective thinking you mat want to establish is that cheese houses are the best you can buy.

You can carry out some simple tests to see if the selective thinking has been established. Once you are certain that it has then you are free to sell your cheese house to them.

So the question you may ask now is how can you hypnotize someone without knowing conversational hypnosis. In truth you almost certainly won't be able to but, fortunately, there are plenty of courses available online that can give you all the training you need if you do want to take control of your destiny with conversational hypnosis.
